Martha loved sunflowers and they were a frequent theme in her work. Van Gogh was one of her favorite painters and inspirations.

This pair of water colors was owned by my great aunts Sybil and Hattie Bell. They were painted in the '60s or '70s.

This is one of my favorite paintings, and it hangs in the hallway right outside of our bedroom, so it's one of the first things I see every day. I love how the unusual colors (dark green, peach, brown, purple, sky blue) are used to create a basically "white" scene.

Crystal Falls Church

The Crystal Falls Baptist Church is just up the road from where Martha lived with her husband Jack. Once a thriving town, Crystal Falls (map) today is home to only a few residents who live near the Clear Fork of the Brazos River.
